Quoi – Norwest / Baulkham Hills

Joining the selection of lakeside dining in the Norwest precinct is Quoi Dining. Pronounced ‘kwa’, in line with their Modern French theme, it is interpreted as ‘An appealing quality that cannot be adequately described.’ While the appealing quality is true, an attempt at describing the experience is worth entertaining.

Intimate Setting

Located underneath the row of Century Circuit restaurants, Quoi provides a cosy, stylish and friendly waterside dining experience. The intimate setting seats around 50 guests – all with a good view of the water, and open plan kitchen. Part of the unique experience is watching Head Chef and Director, Joshua Mason, and his team plate dishes with a creative precision that engages your palate and ignites your appetite.

At just 23, Joshua has achieved multiple awards. He left a coveted position at Michelin-starred San Francisco restaurant Atelier Crenn, to return to Sydney and open his own restaurant – literally on the same day. When asked why he chose Baulkham Hills as a location Joshua simply wanted to offer an alternative dining experience in the Hills. He believes, “the Hills is a wonderful area filled with great friendly people and amazing local produce.” Already on the ‘Restaurants to Watch’ list and nominated for a Chef Hat, Quoi Dining focuses on Modern French and Australian cuisine.

Artistic and Detailed

Everything is made in-house, with a touch of sophistication and modern design that is a delight for both the eyes and the palate. Appetisers are artistic and detailed, providing bite sized morsels of satisfaction. From the sweet and crunchy Cannoli Pumpkin to the rich and smooth Buckwheat tarte with smoked crème fraiche, and salmon roe, it’s worth sampling the whole range. They can also be enjoyed as part of the Tasting Menu.

Quoi Dining Steak Tartare

For entrée the Steak Tartar, with cured egg yolk, and eschallot is an outstanding choice. With a balanced blend of flavours and textures, including the crunch of the miniature croutons and fried capers, to the richness of creamy egg yolk, you immediately erase any thought of eating raw red meat. Seafood lovers will adore the Picked Blue Swimmer Crab, delicately assembled around a roasted garlic beurre blanc.

The Ceviche of Scampi with finger lime and heirloom tomato is a real palate cleanser, as the sweet fresh meat naturally blends with the burst of citrus to get you ready for the next course.

Beautifully Plated

Mains are served on beautiful plates that resemble white waves, and include Wild Barramundi, with baby zucchini, potato, and beurre blanc sauce. Pan seared skin side down for a perfect crisp, this dish truly heroes the great Aussie fish with generous portion sizes and memorable flavours. The baby zucchini, as both a fried flower and sautéed side, along with the perfectly cooked potato, provide a variety of textures and add a beautiful indulgence to an otherwise light dish.

Quoi Dining Barramundi
The deboned Lamb Rack is perfectly paired with buttery baked celeriac and a sweetly divine roasted black garlic puree, that all simply melts in your mouth. While the wine list has a strong French influence, it is extensive, and a glass of New Zealand red is exquisite with the Lamb.

Leave Room for Dessert

Dessert provides another opportunity to enjoy a work of art. The Chocolate hazelnut parfait coated in gooey thick chocolate with homemade honey comb, raspberries, biscuit crumb and chocolate hazelnut ice cream provides beautiful textures that will suitably indulge chocolate lovers. The tart raspberries provide a welcome contrast and the honeycomb heralds the beauty of homemade, by melting in your mouth once the crunchy texture hits your lips.
