Leafy Oatlands café offers attention to detail at every turn

The Bells Road Social was opened in December 2017, by husband and wife team Melissa and Daniel Farr, after selling their previously owned Longshot Café in Beecroft.

Their name makes them easy to find along this leafy Oatland’s road, with plenty of street parking available. The converted and renovated half warehouse offers a unique light-filled space with views of the nearby park and playground throughout. The small balcony area provides coveted sheltered outdoor seating which catches the breeze and takes in the local relaxing atmosphere.

Parent’s Delight

Dan’s fine dining experience, from managing the likes of Aria, is evident at every turn. From the rustic country, yet uncluttered décor, to the generous sized rugs for eating in the park with the kids, and elegant presentation in every dish, The Bells Road Social provides a sophistication above your average local café.

Coffee and Beverages

Serving Morgan’s handcrafted coffee in both daily fusion blends, and a weekly single origin you’re assured of a quality brew every time. Their wide range of drinks include Kombucha, organic fairtrade soft drinks, juices and specialty smoothies. Their self-claimed ‘Bells Colada’ of mango, lychee, pineapple, raspberry, coconut yoghurt, and coconut water, makes you feel like you’re on holiday, so if you’re craving the feelings of Summer, this will definitely take you there. Their green juice is thankfully on the sweeter side so you can enjoy knowing you’re getting a nutrient-rich kick, while avoiding the taste of drinking grass.

Breakfast is served until midday and Chef Mark Dayball provides a wide ranging menu to suit all cravings and dietary requirements. The Egyptian Dukkah Eggs are a sensation for both the palette and the eyes. Sweet spiced golden pumpkin and sweet purple beetroot look so colourful and are perfectly balanced by nuttiness of the seeded bread. The rich egg and creamy fetta are well matched by the dukkah spice and the peppery green rocket adds some extra freshness. Edible flowers complete the beautification of the dish, almost making it look too good to eat.

Their seasonal special of French Toast, with Poached Pears and Pistachio Nut Cream, is a dangerous delight. The two slices of thick French toast are topped with pear that has been perfectly poached in orange, cinnamon and clove, and then drizzled generously with the poaching syrup. The accompanying house made pistachio nut cream is thick and rich, being made from a blend of cream cheese and cream and packed full of pistachios. The entire dish is sprinkled with lemon zest to balance the richness of the cream, making it almost like a deconstructed lemon cheese cake.
Lunch has a good range of burgers and salads with vegan, gluten free and dairy free diets catered for wherever possible.

The Lamb and Haloumi on Rye offers yet another demonstration of vibrant colour. Lamb is generously served on two slices of open Rye Bread with thick slices of haloumi and bright crunchy beetroot slaw. Mark has definitely upskilled the humble lamb sandwich to a whole new level with this dish.

Parents will love that special Breakfast and Lunch Menus have also been created for the kids, with the added option of chips being substituted for vegetable sticks if desired.

Sweet Treats

Donna the Providore is their pastry chef who provides all their cakes and slices including the delicious spiced carrot cake. These locally made delicacies are on display at the counter and are perfect for a quick morning or afternoon pop-in with a fresh brewed tea or coffee.

The Bells Road Social creates comfort and style, along with locally sourced dishes, all fashioned with the customer in mind.
