Customers to The Restore are making a difference with every bite.

The Restore is a Café and Clothing Store Social Enterprise with the aim to provide help in all forms – food, clothing, advice, and company. As a not for profit business their aim is to work alongside the local community, connecting those in need with those who have the means to provide – by purchasing from their business. Both the Op Shop and Café are run by a dedicated team of staff and volunteers who provide regular meaningful connections of social interaction and friendship, and all profits go to supporting the provision of practical help.

While they have placed themselves in a key area of need, they present themselves in an appealing and eye-catching fashion. This attracts those who don’t twice about buying themselves a daily coffee, and might even buy a coffee for someone who can’t.

The inviting store front stands out significantly on this busy road, with its modern design looking more like something lifted out of Surry Hills or Newtown.

The inside ambience provides a welcoming café and retail space, making it a much less alienating environment for the people they are there to support, and offering a more dignified experience for those who need to come in and reach out for help.

The café opened in August 2017 and their desire to support the local community extends to local businesses who will ensure a supply of quality products. That’s why they source their coffee beans from Black Drum Roasters in Blacktown, and their bread and sweet baked goods are supplied by Shepherds Bakery in Chester Hill.

Their menu boasts a good range of breakfast and lunch selections served all day, at prices that prove they are not in it for profit. With Avocado Toast starting at $7.50 and finishing at $11.50 if you add Haloumi and tomato, you have enough in your breakfast budget to extend to their ‘change menu’. This is where for $1 you can ‘pay it forward’ to buy a visitor some Raisin Toast, or a Cheese Toastie for $1.50.

Their signature Breakfast Bowl acknowledges that they have plenty of customers with the capacity to spend $12.50 on a healthy and substantial breakfast. With your choice of chorizo or smoked salmon, this bowl includes a generous serve of haloumi, fried egg, avocado, tomatoes and spinach, with two slices of sourdough.

Lunch includes Burgers, sandwiches and wraps, but my favourite menu item is the Fig and Raisin Toast with Ricotta and Honey. Perfect with a coffee when stopping in and checking what’s new on the clothing racks.

The Restore is like no other café in the area, firstly because they provide a great cup of coffee and delicious bite to eat, but mainly because they are an integral part of the community with a vision to see those around them thrive.
