waterfront diningThai Dining at a Lakeside Location

The Seed Thai is often described as a ‘hidden gem’ amongst those who find it for the first time. Open since January 2013 and run by partners Pob and Head Chef Joel, it’s a pleasant surprise to find equally high quality Thai food at a value for money price nestled amongst the five star waterfront restaurants of Norwest Business Park,

On several occasions I have intended dining at one of the other restaurants, only to find myself drawn to The Seed Thai for their delicate ambiance, and variety of food choices.

The décor is ornate, rich and colourful, while remaining elegant and comfortable, with water views available from every table.

Every dish I’ve tried at The Seed Thai has been extraordinary, always seeming to go that ‘extra-mile’ on expectations. Entrees go beyond the presumed with fresh spring rolls offered in Vegetable, Chicken or Prawn varieties, grilled scallops, and peaking duck rolls with roasted duck, cucumber, spring shallot all wrapped in a pancake and served with a homemade sauce. The salt and pepper soft shell crab and salt and pepper squid are equally delicious and easily shared – that is if you’re willing to.

The menu is extensive, from curries and noodles, to soups and salads – including a seafood salad of grilled king prawns, calamari, mussels and scallops with vermicelli noodles and traditional Thai dressing. The specialty fish dishes range from steamed barramundi and snapper fillets to an entire deep fried whole fish on your plate with a choice of homemade sauces.

The BBQ menu is perfect for those looking for more of a ‘meat and salad’ option with BBQ Beef, Pork Spare Ribs or Lamb served with mixed salad and a Thai style dressing.

I’ve been more than impressed by some of their signature dishes – particularly the Crispy Pork Belly. Stir Fried so that it is well cooked with a crispy skin, and sitting in a bath of oyster sauce with Chinese broccoli, I can’t go past the mix of rich, sweet and salty flavours, balanced by the freshness of the greens. This is a great dish to share with some boiled or coconut rice on the side.

Another of the signature dishes, however not designed for sharing, is the massamun lamb shanks. Braised for eight hours, this lamb just falls off the bone and into the creamy massamun sauce layered with cashew nuts and accompanied by hearty vegetables. A lovely dish in the cooler months.

Traditional favourites are still catered for, like red and green curry, satay, cashew nut noodles, laksa, and my husband’s favourite – Beef Pad Thai. Desserts range from traditional Thai offerings of taro, roti and sweet sticky rice varieties, to a range of gelatos and the ever favourite Deep Fried Ice Cream – with a delicious flakey fried pastry that is so big, it’s easy enough to share!

The service is impeccable with wait staff incredibly friendly and always attentive. For a pleasurable lakeside dining experience that won’t hurt your hip pocket, you can’t go past The Seed Thai. However if you would rather enjoy their delicious cuisine at home, they do also offer takeaway and home delivery options.
